Yahoo Sitemaps
To submit a Yahoo Sitemap, first you must go to Yahoo Site Explorer. At the top of the screen, you will see a sign in link. Click this link and enter your Yahoo login details. If you don’t have a Yahoo ID, signup for one by clicking on the sign up text link in the lower right hand part of the sign in window.
Now that you are logged in to Yahoo Site Explorer, enter your full Website URL in the textbox and click on the add my site button. Your URL will now appear in My Sites.
Before you submit your Sitemap to Yahoo, let’s first get your site authenticated. All the way to the right of your URL (in the My Sites area), you will see a green authenticate option. Click this link. Now you are given the option to download or create your own HTML authentication file. Click the download option and save it to your computer. Then, upload this file to your site’s root directory (same as the sitemap). Once this is completed, proceed to Yahoo’s verification step number three and click on the grey ready to authenticate button. Your site should now be pending authentication.
Now that your site is pending authentication, click on the Site Explorer link in the upper left side of the screen so that you can return to My Sites. Click on the manage button to the left of your URL. In the textbox, enter the relative path to your Sitemap (usually sitemap.xml) and leave the feed dropdown box set to web site feed. Click the grey add feed button to the right and your Sitemap is finally submitted!
Yahoo does check the uploaded HTML verification file or Meta tag frequently. Do not delete this file or remove the Meta tag. Otherwise you will need to go through the verification process all over again.
Now that you have submitted your Yahoo Sitemap, let’s submit your Sitemap to Live Search.
